Luna Park

Alexia, a B-movie scream queen with a dark past, lives in New York, but owns property in Los Angeles that she is renting out to a gay porn company for their film shoots. While she is away, she has left her equally troubled, mute younger brother Christi in charge. Christi, though, is a twinky little horndog. He can't keep from spying on all the scorching hot porn actors during their private, intimate moments.

Christi gets caught by two of the porn stars, who inform Alexia of her little brother's voyeuristic streak. Alexia decides to send her best problem-solver Maxwell to Los Angeles to keep an eye on her mischievous sibling. Once Maxwell arrives, he learns that the seductive young Christi has no intentions of making his job easy. Christi strips down to his tight little briefs to drive Maxwell wild with lust.

It isn't long before Maxwell gives in to temptation and falls in both love and lust his younger admirer. The two begin a passionate affair and do their best to keep Alexia from finding out. But, as Maxwell gets closer to Christi, he starts learning some strange and sinister secrets about Alexia's past that may give him the upper hand in their frequently tumultuous relationship.

Make no mistake, Luna Park is an amateur endeavor. Director Steven Vasquez has built a pretty hefty filmography with low-budget, plot-driven erotica (see also Sideline Secrets, Darker Secrets: Sideline Secrets 2, A Siren in the Dark and Vampire Boys 2: The New Brood). What the film lacks in satisfactory performances, character development and production value, it makes up for in arousing tension, slow-motion sex scenes and extremely generous male nudity.

We're treated to a nice shot delicious semi-hard cock within the first minute of the movie ? and there are plenty more juicy shafts that follow. Also, while it is near impossible to understand how or why Maxwell and Christi fall so desperately in love, it is a lot of fun to watch them embrace while either totally naked or clad only in their briefs.

LUNA PARK is a valid attempt of a film. It is obviously low budget and there is room for some better acting, but the story itself is interesting and packs some twists and turns. I appreciate how the film uses pieces of the original short film, ROSE & ALEXANDER from years ago, and mixes it with new footage, to show what happened years after a tragic event. The actors in the film are cute. It is nice to see a "gay film" that doesn't really on "coming out" and HIV as it's crutch. This film treats its characters like fleshed out people with interesting stories and secrets. Some of the subject manner is a bit unsettling, but it makes for a mysterious ride worth viewing if you are ready for something a bit deeper than the typical gay rom-com with recycled storylines.

Steven Vasquez returns with another dark entry to his film library, this time entitled LUNA PARK.
LUNA PARK is a full length spin-off of an award-winning short film, ROSE & ALEXANDER.
LUNA PARK has all the touches of a Steven Vasquez film, that we have come to know-- there are layered storylines, characters crossing paths, and a timeline that goes from present to past and back again seamlessly.
Like his previous films, A SIREN IN THE DARK for example, you must pay attention or you can easily get lost on the journey.
LUNA PARK has its moments of humor, but overall it is a dark story that is hard to explain without giving away too many secrets. I mean that in a good way. For, it kept me attention from start to finish and even then, I really did not see the end coming!!!
The performances are pretty on par with other gay indie films. Taylor Caldwell does a nice job playing the mute character. He easily gets his story across through simple eye and facial expressions.
LUNA PARK has a little of something for everyone, but is sure to please viewers that have a more "twisted" interest.
I would actually like to see what happens next with this storyline, as it seems it can take off in any direction!!!

The original short, ROSE & ALEXANDER, is included on the DVD as a bonus feature!

Sometimes I watch a movie and have a good time watching even though I have no idea as to what it is about. That is the case with "Luna Park". I had a really hard time following the story but the nudity got me through that. Basically the story is something like this: Luna Park is the place where the stars of a gay porn company go to relax when they are not making movies. It is owned by Alexia, a former actress who is now a producer and it is managed by Christi, her younger brother (or is he?) who cannot speak. Christi gets off by spying on the porn stars. He hides in his closet or in the closets of others and looks at the men as they amuse themselves off camera. He got caught spying on one of the stars so Alexia sends Maxwell, one of her assistants, to take care of him and to put things back in order.
Neither Max nor Christi were prepared for what was to happen-they fell in love with each other and when this happened some of Alexia's secrets came forth. What is now out could very well change everything.
The eye candy is really nice and there are times in the film that it seems to be part of the plot but there is one scene of one of Alexia's boyfriends brushing his teeth and naked from the waist down. (Nice to look at but does nothing to propel the plot). Steven Vasquez directed the cast made up of Laura Reilly, Michael Brent, Taylor Caldwell, Brandon Ryan Pulio, Nikki Ferris and Matthew Kalik. I do not think I gave anything away about the film and if I did I apologize.
