After "Arcade on Route 9," Gage had nobody to compete with but himself. Instead of trying to out-top that achievement, he started doing a series of 'theme' movies, and "McCool" is his 'military' flick. I can see the points of view of both the reviewer who was disappointed and the reviewer who thought it was hot. Gage doesn't really get into the things that make military porn hot--the models don't seem super-manly, the situations aren't typically military (a sperm bank???), and the sex is a bit too free and touchy-feely for guys who are supposedly just 'gettin' it off with each other' and presumably feeling guilty about violating their code of manhood by doing so. On the other hand, there are scenes where Gage is doing what Gage does best--particularly another father-son-and-third-person almost- scene. (Compare the other Gage films, "110 in Tucson," "Arcade on Route 9," and--almost but not quite--"Copperhead Canyon.") You may want Dad and sonny-boy to go all the way, like another reviewer apparently did, but some of the later Gage movies, where they do exactly that ("Dad Out West," for instance), are kind of disappointing, whereas Dad and son cutting furtive, guilty looks at each other, while they're both going at it with Dad's best friend, have the energy and tension that makes for good porn.

Basically, a hot premise that keeps missing the mark. Maybe it's the pacing -- even the hottest scenes seem to drag. Joe keeps flirting with the taboo father/son thing, which disappoints me. I had hoped for more, from this studly cast of real men. And whose photo was it, after all?

This film really lives up to the Joe Gage canon. From the first scene through the last, it is all hotness and technical skill. Vinnie D'Angelo as the title character gives a great performance, both as an actor and a sexual performer, and the rest of the cast follows suit. The set-ups are stellar and sexy, and the finale in the sperm bank just ROCKS with sexual energy. Joe Gage never lets us down, and definitely not with McCOOL! Thanks for this movie, Joe, and all your others. They are the best.
