Revival, The

There's parts where Zachary Booth goes to kiss the main character, which is pretty hot and romantic, but apart from those few scenes, the movie lacks depth, the ending sucks, and the behaviour of the priest is horrendous, unchristian, bizarre, and just plain wrong. You come away from the movie thinking 'WTF did I just watch', and then want the 1 hour and 25 minutes of your life back. The only good thing about this movie is the kiss from Zachary Booth.

I am very discouraged with religion even more now,particularly southern religions.I can't believe how this movie ended. I am just horrified by it! I dated a religious guy once, but never again, especially now. I believe in God, but on my own terms. He loves us all no matter what. If you believe that being Gay is a sin, then you also shouldn't be eating pork or shellfish and probably should have a dozen wives or so. Give me a break!! I liked the movie until the ending which broke my heart.

This isn't what you think it is. Although it seems foolish to mention to this audience on this site, if you are in the least bit pro-gay, forget this one. The only lesson to learn from this film (which is obvious, after all) is to not make out with a weakling... in front of an unshaded window... in a brightly lit room... in a small town. And, don't expect any help from the alternate ending. Heaven help us all!

Director Jennifer Gerber explores faith in the Deep South in a drama that asks how far one is willing to go for what he/she believes in. A desperate young man wanders into town in rural Arkansas, looking for food and shelter and a progressive pastor tries to open the minds of his Old Testament congregation. We meet a born again, recovering alcoholic who fights for his church and a pastor's wife who looks to her gay husband for salvation. Everything comes to a head at an old time revival.

It is so important that this story be told because of the current political climate. The film explores the psychology of a community of people that make up much of our country but very little of our popular culture.

"The Revival" began as an off-Broadway play. It is a powerful drama with very rich and full characters and the plot is edgy, fearless and powerful and it challenges viewers to try to understand issues of repression and hate.

When Eli begins preaching at his father's old church, he is desperate to open the minds of the congregation. His plans are quickly derailed when he strikes up a relationship with a fascinating drifter. Tensions soon come to a head and there are resentments and repressed emotions that lead to a revival that will shake up an Arkansas town.
