Playful and wildly entertaining, I'm a Porn Star takes an in-depth look at the gay adult entertainment industry and four established stars (Brent Everett, Colby Jansen, Rocco Reed and Johnny Rapid) who speak candidly about their experiences as highly lusted-after sexual icons.
Prolific actor-director-producer-author Charlie David (I'm a Stripper, Positive Youth) starts out by offering a history of gay pornography. We get to see fascinating silent footage of some of the earliest homoerotic action staged on film, as well as the "men's physique" magazines and reels of the 1940s and '50s that provided spank-bank material under the guise of appreciating "male athleticism".
He takes us through the arthouse-appreciated flicks of the '70s, the home video boom of the 1980s, the AIDS crisis and it's effect on porn, the higher budgets of the '90s and the keywords, special interests and star-focused sites of the internet age. And that's all before the opening credits! Once we start getting to know our four delectable subjects, I'm a Porn Star really takes off.
Colby Jansen, is a brawny, charmingly self-depricating, semi-straight former marine and defense contractor. He's working on getting his MBA and using his porn earnings to pay tuition. He's married to award-winning transsexual porn star Gia Darling.
Johnny Rapid is a cocky, Southern, twink-lover's wet dream come true. He has turned into a mega-star over the past year. Charlie David's camera catches his youthful charisma just as he's about to pop.
Rocco Reed is a veteran of both straight and gay porn who has an incredible amount of insight into those two separate worlds. A personal trainer by trade, he's already got his mind set on opening a gym after he retires from porn.
Finally... well... not much really needs to be said about Brent Everett, right? A one-man media empire, he's one of the most popular and successful gay adult performers working today.
These unabashed gents share their thoughts, experiences, aspirations and personal sexual interests. They talk about their fame, their fans, industry politics, what got them into gay porn, what turns them on and keeps them hard during scenes, what it's like to work with certain famous stars, how much money they make, how hard they have to work to stay fit and desirable, what hoops they need to jump through to stay compliant with government regulations, how their jobs have affected their off-screen relationships and much, much more.
Expertly edited and packed to the brim with footage both arousing and enlightening, I'm a Porn Star is relentlessly fun and frequently fascinating. It's a unique VIP pass behind-the-scenes and a welcome excuse to hang out casually with some the sweat-inducing guys who turn us on and help get us off on a regular basis.

The director of the porn at Men.com is straight (not Charile David, whom I respect very much). Men is a straight owned company, that employs straight models, with straight or Lesbian directors. It was the only company profiled. I questioned the choice when there are so many gay owned companies with real gay men. The video was not thought out well and only highlighted a very small sample of the industry and stayed away from the hardcore issues. I like David, but this was a poor effort.

In his review, "Colorful Kent" states "BTW, the director was straight, too" in a negative context. Charlie David (the director) has been out as a gay actor for many years, and has had plenty of publicity as an out gay actor. I don't know where the reviewer could have possibly gotten his information, but he is clearly incorrect! This causes me to question some of his other negative comments as well. Readers beware!

To be correct, this should be called all-male porn, but it's not gay. Gay porn has gay men in it. Only one of the four guys profiled is gay. Mendotcom the only studio profiled -one of the worst of the gay4pay business. Unless you count Andrew Christian as porn.
I was bothered by the director complaining about a model who didn't test. Testing is a way of filtering out the gay poz guys so only straight guys get the work. BTW, the director was straight, too. This part made me ill.
This documentary didn't address gay4pay as homophobia nor did it it address barebacking which is a big issue. And Rocco Reed had a homophobic history. Ignoring all this is sloppy coverage of the gay porn industry.
Porn is not shocking anymore. It's not shocking that straight men do it. It's shocking that they shame gay sex and gay men, and so many gay men worship them.
Skip this. Studlebrity looks much better. The trailer is fabulous. I can't wait to see it.

If the names Brent Everett, Colby Jansen and Johnny Rapid mean something to you then I can surmise that you watch gay porn. These guys are porn stars and they work in a business that brings in thirteen billion dollars annually. There are 370 million pornographic websites on the internet and they all seem to be doing business. The guys that perform in porn films or just regular guys like you and me (well maybe more like you than like me).
How do guys get into porn? How much do they make? Are they using and Viagra? Do their families and friends know what they do? How much do they make? These are the questions that most of us have and Charlie David is here to give us the answers. This is film is a look at the people that make those films and it gives us a look at those that work in the industry and it is a fun look at gay porn. There are so many questions that we want to know the answers to and aside from the ones already listed above we can add a few more. What makes a person a porn star? Do porn stars love sex as much as they seem to in their movies? Does a porn star have to be well hung to break into the business?
This is not just a documentary-it is something of a tease but it does answer questions and takes us into the lives of those guys who work in porn. This is also a behind the scenes look at the industry and an intimate look at Brent Everett, Colby Jansen, Rocco Reed and Johnny Rapid. We also hear from some of the biggest names in the business: Andrew Christian, Andrew Stark, Bobby Clark, Brent Corrigan, Chi Chi LaRue, Dr. Laurie Betito, Duncan Black, Frank Spinelli, MD, Gia Darling, Mark Bessenger, Rafael Alencar, Raja Gemini, Rod Daily and Steve Pena.
