The Seminarian is a story about Ryan (Mark Cirillo), a closeted gay student in his final semester of seminary studies. Despite his school's hostile stance towards homosexuality, Ryan has two gay classmates - Gerald (Matthew Hannon) and Anthony (Javier Montoya) - in whom he secretly confides. He is also close to his religiously devout mother who, as things stand, is unaware of his sexual orientation. Ryan needs to complete a solid theological thesis in order to continue doctoral work at the university of his dreams. As he works on his thesis "The Divine Gift of Love," Ryan begins a relationship with Bradley (Eric Parker Bingham) - a guy he has met on the internet who seems perpetually unable to commit himself. Ryan confides in

Gerald and Anthony, only to learn about their romantic struggles as well. Consequently, Ryan questions his views on God's gift of love.

Reasons to Buy

  1. The Seminarian won the "Directorial Discovery" award at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
  2. Star Mark Cirillo is a serious cutie-pie! We would go gay for God too if he were hosting mass each week.
  3. This is a thoughtful, dramatic, and romantic examination of the unnecessary conflicts between love and religion - something many, many devout, but discriminated gay men can relate to.

Ryan (Mark Cirillo) is a straight-laced, closeted seminary student working on a thesis paper that he hopes will get him into Yale. His subject is love ? and how it relates to divinity. Ryan believes that God gave us the gift of love in order to refle... Read More

I was really looking forward to watching this movie. There was so much potential, but it failed miserably.

I don't know which was worse ... the script or the acting.

Save your money.

This is a 1-STAR review.

Thinking himself only good enough to fall for and cling to an emotionally broken wreck of a man ("Bradley"), this film's Anti-hero lead actor, Mark Cirillo (playing an increasingly irritating and progressively bori... Read More

Regrettably, though this movie had a lot of script potential given the subject matter, it never got off the page. Wooden, flat, and other than an occasional pickle shot by the lead character, this movie has no redeeming features. Hopefully the film... Read More
