First, the good news: Max Sargent and Colt Rivers have a half-hour daddy-boy scene at the beginning that is red-hot. Sargent is one of my favorite daddies (see my review of "Age & Wisdom"); Colt Rivers plays the character of the boyfriend of Sargent's daughter, with whom he's recently broken up. No reason given for the break-up but a hint is provided by the fact that Rivers' character just LOVES to suck cock, get fucked, and be given sexual orders by an older man. The situation doesn't really contribute much, except that it gives the opportunity for some hot comments during sex ("You fuck my daughter with that cock?"), but the sex itself is vigorous and enthusiastic, and the intergenerational aspect comes through loud and clear. Later on, there's a three-way scene between Sargent, Mike deMarko and Mike Giatti that is also hot. Giatti has a great body but not much personality, and there's too much time spent on him and not enough on deMarko (another of my favorites--see my review of "A Royal Fuckfest"), who has a great body with a big thick dick, and PLENTY of personality. Again, the situation doesn't contribute much, but there's plenty of hot fucking. Now, the bad news. Connor Habib had taken a few years off to try and start an on-line talk show, and maybe it interfered with his workout schedule. He's rather chubby in this film, which wouldn't bother me, but he NEVER TAKES HIS SHIRT OFF all through the film. Presumably by his own choice, as Gage has never had a problem with 'non-standard' bodies. But it really puts a damper on Habib's two big scenes, one with Rivers and the other being the final three-way. Then there is the final three-way itself. This movie is part of a series starring Allan Silver--"Dad Goes On a Fishing Trip," "Dad Goes to College," "Dad Gets Into Trouble," and this one, which is, I think, supposed to be the culmination. "Dad Goes to College" went all the way with the theme (Connor Habib plays his son in that one, too, with reference made to it in the film currently under consideration, when Connor's character says "Remember last time?" to his dad). "Dad Out West" tries to raise the ante by having a scene with Scott Reynolds as the grandfather, Allen Silver as the son, and Conner Habib as the grandson. But it never takes off. Allen Silver is a genuine daddy, not a thirty-something with prematurely grey hair, and Reynolds does look old enough to be his father (or his older brother, at least), but they're both so laid back, with "Isn't this fun?" grins on their faces, that the rule-breaking urgency isn't there. It's just a three-way, with guys of different ages; fun, but not what you came for. Habib has more of the "What the heck is going on, here" attitude that would spice it up, but, as I say, he doesn't throw himself into the action. With this kind of scene, you should either work the situation for all it's worth, or (as in other Gage films) you should have the family members doing things with other guys (but not each other) and you use the family connection to bring tension to a scene that's hot in other ways. As it is, there's a sense of anti-climax--the last line of the film shows Silver staring into space and saying, "Well, NOW what?" and the viewer is inclined to sympathize with the feeling of aimlessness. Joe Gage is such a great porn director, and this script had the potential for being a large-scale epic on the lines of "Arcade on Route 9." There's great fucking in this film, but, Gage being capable of better things, you end up disappointed to miss what might have been.
