Though it employs a new cast of characters, Daydream Obsession 3: Legacy covers the same territory as its two predecessors. Unfortunately, for fans of bondage, the plot doesn't become as twisted or sinister. This installment is, however, chock full of the same hot scenarios.
Wylie (Matthew Herrick), a cute, chiseled college boy who can't seem to find his way out of the closet, is staying at his equally sexy, recently-divorced father's new bachelor pad for spring break. As it turns out, this house just so happens to be where Clayton (Joseph Dain), the troubled protagonist of the first two films, formerly resided. While his newly single Dad ? who, much to our excitement, likes to walk around naked, flex his muscles and check out his own junk in the mirror ? is out chasing tail, Wylie discovers the secret video diaries that Clayton left behind.
Watching Clayton's videos with amazement, Wylie empathizes when he confesses to having a secret obsession with his best friend. All too coincidentally, Wylie is in the same exact predicament. All of his friends are straight and blissfully unaware that Wylie may be different. Under the surface, Wylie lusts after all of his straight buddies. His heart, however, is specifically reserved for Greg (Ronnie Kerr - the writer/actor behind Saltwater and Shut Up & Kiss Me), his beefy, intoxicatingly masculine roommate.
After inviting his best buddies over to his Dad's place for a small-scale pool party and a few beers, Wylie finds himself in over his head. He can't seem to control his sexual fantasies. Lucky for us viewers, he keeps picturing his muscular mates in the buff. When Greg passes out, Wylie's obsessive desires get the better of him. He slowly, carefully, undresses the hot jock ? unaware that the video camera is capturing every boner-inducing moment. The next morning, Wylie's worst fears are realized when his friends start to watch the tape and the truth about his sexual orientation comes out into the open. Will Greg be able to look past Wylie's indiscretion in an effort to save their friendship or will Wylie forever be seen as a pervert through the eyes of the hunk he loves?
While the production value leaves much to be desired and the ever-present, overly-chipper soundtrack is distractingly inappropriate, this third addition to the Daydream Obsession series offers enough lingering, mouth-watering shots of delicious young flesh to make up for its flaws. And, let's face it, all of us who have ever lusted after our straight buddies will find a lot that we can relate to. He who has never thought of undressing a sleepy jock can feel free to cast the first stone.

First off, I want to beat out the reviewers who will probably jump in to berate the film for its budget and story as if anyone is watching this film for that purpose. These films are strictly for the crowd, like myself, who miss the days when there was a steady diet of superior male softcore flicks being produced. Now if we are lucky similar films come out maybe once every 8-15 months or so, otherwise viewers looking for quality male softcore must wade through tired cliched relationship fodder, dreary downer melodramas or cutesy drag queen foolishness to maybe get some brief glimpses of male skin. The Daydream Obsession series may have its weaknesses, but it makes no bones about its purpose and more power to it. This latest entry is a step up from the last sequel in both the quality/hotness of the cast (barring the great Joseph Dain) and in abandoning the annoying nasty edge from the last film. While staying with his recently divorced dad, Matthew Stephen Herrick is a college guy who discovers the tapes made by Dain's character from the first film and sympathizes with his plight as he himself is a closeted gay guy with a crush on his hunky best friend/roommate Ronnie Kerr. Kerr and the other guys are fine, but I really found Herrick quite appealing and sexy in a boy-next-door fashion. The centerpiece of the film is a pretty well-done sequence wherein Herrick finds himself alone with a Kerr and nervously begins to undress him. They capture the desire and sweaty nervousness of the situation without going overboard or making us dislike the central character. The film has a thankfully lighter tone than its predecessor and does not skimp on completely denuding the male cast in a variety of scenes (although Herrick could have been naked more!). As effective as the central stripping scene is, my favorite moments are when the bashful Herrick decides to bite the bullet and skinnydip in the pool and is interrupted in his full frontal glory by a neighbor and a lengthy sequence of Herrick's sexy dad showering. Kudos for showcasing a slightly older guy in great shape who, despite some rather misogynistic remarks early on, turns out to be a refreshing character. I also like the upbeat choice of music from Justin Utley rather than the usual synthetic instrumental pablum that plays in standard softcore. The film does exactly what it promises to do and was worth the purchase. I actually hope that Thomas R. Smyth, Scott Yarbrough and company bring back Herrick for another Daydream adventure.

I haven't cared for the first two DAYDREAM OBSESSIONS. I will rent this, just as I have been a viewer of the series. But, I am sensing a little DEJA VU here with this synopsis and that of SIDELINE SECRETS 2.

Coming in December from Ariztical Entertainment will be the third DVD in their "Daydream Obsession" series. This volume, "The Legacy" is also a soft-core look at an aspect of gay life although this one is about "straight" men.
We meet Wylie a young hot guy who is horny like so many young guys his age. He comes to stay at his newly divorced dad's house during Spring Break. His father is free to look for sex and while his dad is out doing just that, Wylie comes across the video diary of Clayton. He takes both the tapes and the camera. He then decides to call a few of his friends (who are straight) and invites them over. As they drink and party, they end up in bed not realizing that the camera is on and filming a bunch of straight men exploring their gay sides.
While lacking in plot, there is lots of eye candy here and even though the action is soft-core, there is a lot to watch.
