Ferzan Ozpetek is an Italian director who makes films about queer life. "The Goddess of Fortune (La Dea Fortuna)," written by Ozpetek with his longtime collaborators Gianni Romoli and Silvia Ranfagni, is the story of Alessandro (Edoardo Leo) and Arturo (Stefano Accorsi) who have been together for 15 years but whose relationship is now in trouble. An old friend, Annamaria (Jasmine Trinca), comes back into their lives with two children and she needs the two guys to take care for them for a while.
This could be the chance to renew their relationship. The children, aged nine and twelve provide a turning point for Arturo, a frustrated writer who is to live as a translator, and Alessandro, a plumber but what they really need is to find the love that they once shared.
The children, Martina and Alessandro (Sara Ciocca and Edoardo Brandi) upset their everyday life and the sudden change in the routine of the two lead Alessandro and Arturo to change their perspective on their life and their relationship and on what they feel for each other.
The two men's relationship is an open one and they are both aware that at any moment it could be over. DirectorÖzpetek looks at the issue of gay adoptions very clearly through the themes of love, death, illness and homosexuality. We have moments of pathos as we look at the men trying to hold on to each other and we are immediately pulled into their story.
