Andreas and Stefan lead a happy life: Together with their beloved tomcat Moses, they live in a beautiful old house in Vienna's vineyards. They work as a musician and as a scheduler in the same orchestra and they love their large circle of friends. An unexpected and inexplicable outburst of violence suddenly shakes up the relationship and calls everything into question ? the blind spot that resides in all of us.
Reasons to Buy
- Ooof. This one is rough, you guys. Leave it to Austria to produce a stirring gay relationship drama centered (SPOILER ALERT) around the brutal death of a cat. Animal lovers might want to steer clear, but fans of well-crafted, uncompromisingly bleak European cinema will be delighted.
- Tomcat earned excellent reviews in the Panorama section at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Teddy Award as the best LGBT-related feature film of the festival.
- Lead actors Lukas Turtur and Philipp Hochmair give terrific performances. The idyllic beginning of the film has the feel of a gay "Adam and Eve" allegory - with the couple celebrating their blissful, achingly authentic romance (usually naked). That's, of course, before everything goes to hell in a hand-basket. Don't say we didn't warn you!
