Tangerine
Magnolia Home EntertainmentIt's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee (newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone) hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the working girl and her best friend, Alexandra (newcomer Mya Taylor), embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles.
Reasons to Buy
- Director Sean Baker's films bring rich texture and intimate detail to worlds seldom seen on film. Tangerine does the same. This is a refreshing and original trans comedy that's not actually ABOUT the fact that the characters (and actors) are trans.
- Lead actresses Kitana Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor are revelatory. This is the most prominent film to feature trans actors playing trans characters. These women deserve a place at the table - and Tangerine gives them that while keeping the proceedings casual and eminently cool.
- Critics have gone wild for this movie. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone called it "a groundbreaking film that leaves you in stitches while quietly breaking your heart" and Andrea Stoehr of The Dissolve said that it's "exactly the type of movie that can spark a revolution." There are countless more raves. You'll be hard-pressed to find a critic who doesn't love it.

"Tangerine" is a film that draws you in and makes you care about the characters even when the topics are prostitutes, pimps, , sex, homosexuality and gender roles. We see individuals who have the same, or even better, values than we have.
