After moving to California in his early twenties, Al found work as a butler for Hugh Hefner at the legendary Playboy Mansion. From there, he was soon discovered by Rip Colt, founder of the world famous Colt Studios, which led to the birth of his modeling career.

At this time, Al also met Richard Cole, who later became his lifelong business and romantic partner. Together, they established Surge Studios, where Al began starring in larger, big-budget productions that transformed him into an undeniable superstar. Adding to his success as an actor, Al also flexed his skills as a producer and director for Surge, proving to be a on both sides of the camera.
