Synopsis

A romantic coming-out story of Karim, a straight Algerian-French man who begins a sociological study of Islamic homosexuality and soon discovers gay love with an Arab youth.

Review

Karim is a straight Algerian-French sociology student who embarks on a documentary film project on Arab homosexuality – a study which takes him from Paris to Amsterdam, Marseilles and eventually to the Maghreb region of northern Africa (an area encompassing Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia). He attempts to interview gay men, but the sexually repressive nature of the region makes it all the more difficult for the young man. He interviews a Tunisian performance artist and Mustapha, a sexually aggressive man, but eventually he meets the handsome and openly gay flight attendant Farid. The two talk and become close friends. Farid begins to believe that Karim is repressing his own gayness and Karim is forced to consider the truth in the assertion. When Karim's girlfriend leaves after discovering a book on Persian love poems given to him by Farid, Karim takes the opportunity to indeed explore his nascent homosexuality. I really love "The Road To Love". I recommend this movie to anybody who want to watch a good film. Karim, a student, who is on a quest to find a gay Muslims, and falls in love with Farid. I don't want to tell you the story, but it is a must see film. Four stars I give it!
