Synopsis

By now everyone is familiar with “Spring Awakening” after its big Broadway success but not many of us have seen the non musical version which is now on DVD from Here TV! Based on the play by Frank Wedekind that was written in 1891 it is basically the story of awakening sexuality.
Michael is the central character and he has a bit of education about human reproduction and certainly knows more about it than his classmates. When he tells the others what he knows the results are somewhat tragic especially in an oppressive society. The play was originally banned in Germany because of the sexual nature but we see that it still rings true today. This is an interesting production, directed by Arthur Sideman and starring Victoria Tennant, John Aniston, Constance Towers and others.
