What is VOD?
Video-On-Demand (VOD) is an online video feed service that allows you to watch movies on your computer immediately. The film can either be "streamed" from our servers to you or, if you want to download the film to rent or own, you download a copy of the film to your hard drive. Either way, you can pause and jump forward and backward in the film. You can also stop the film entirely and go back to view it — either from the beginning or where you left off — within the rental time period.
How do I use it?
In order to view movies using VOD, you must first ensure that you meet our System Requirements. Then you must log in.
Once you do, you will have the ability to view any trailers on our site for free and can purchase any available movie from our VOD library.
For all Pay-Per-Minute and Adult Streaming Rentals, you will need the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight. You can download Silverlight for free using the link below:
Download Microsoft Silverlight
For all Download Rentals and Download to Own videos you will need Windows Media Player Version 9 or higher. If you are using Internet Explorer Version 7 or higher and you choose to use the IE Popup Player (formerly our Full Player) for streaming video, you will also need Windows Media Player. You can download the player for free using the link below:
To watch our trailers and Streaming Cinema Rentals, you will need Adobe Flash Player. You can download the player for free using the link below:
Viewing VOD MoviesBack To Top
Streaming Rentals: Streaming Rentals allow you to rent a movie and watch it as many times as you like within a given time period from either a PC or Mac. To purchase a Streaming Rental, simply click the "Add to Cart" button and proceed with the purchase process. Once complete, you will be prompted to start watching your rental immediately, or if you like, you can always view your rental by going to your My Account page, clicking the VOD/Digital tab followed by the Rental History tab and reviewing your history. You can also watch your rental by returning to the video's details page and clicking the "Watch" button in the Streaming Rental section.
Downloads: For PC-users only (Mac users, we're working on it!). You download a digital copy of the film to your hard drive. The download process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on your internet connection. The first time you play it, you will be prompted for your TLA username and password. Please note that you must be online and connected to the internet the first time that you attempt to play the movie so that you can log in.
Pay-Per-Minute: Pay-Per-Minute allows you to buy a block of viewing time so you can watch any movie available as Pay-Per-Minute whenever you want, for as long as you have minutes remaining in your account.
What is "Premium Content"?Back To Top
Movies labeled as "premium content", when viewed as Pay-Per-Minute, will deduct minutes from your account at an accelerated rate. For example, if you watch a premium content title that has a rate of 1.5x, the system will deduct one and a half minutes from your time bank for every one minute you watch. These premium content titles are clearly marked and will display the accelerated minute rate.
I have purchased a VOD Streaming Rental or Download. Now what?
Once you have purchased a TLA VOD Streaming Rental or Download, you will see a link to watch or download your video/s on your order confirmation page. In order to access your VOD purchases again, just go to My Account. When you log in you will see a VOD/Digital navigation tab for your VOD Purchases - your new purchases will be listed at the top. You can also view your previous history and access your VOD Favorites.
For Adult Streaming Rentals: After you have clicked the VOD/Digital tab, next click the Rental History tab. Once on your rental history page, clicking the link for a rental you have purchased will take you back to the title's details page and will begin streaming your rental. If your rental period hasn't expired, you will see the expiration date and time for the rental under the "Watch" button. (If not, please refresh your browser window). If your browser blocks popups and you are using the Universal Popup Player, IE Popup Player or the Standalone Windows Media Player, you will need to click the "Watch" button in the Streaming Rental section to begin playing your rental in a new player window.
For Streaming Cinema Rentals: After you have clicked the VOD/Digital tab, next click the Rental History tab. Once on your rental history page, clicking the link for an active Streaming Cinema Rental will take you to the TLA Theater page and load your selection. Just click the Play button to start streaming. If you have more than one active Streaming Cinema Rental, you can easily access your other rentals by scrolling down the TLA Theater page to the Your Active Rentals section.
For Downloads: After clicking the VOD/Digital tab, you will see your active download purchases listed below. Right click the title you have purchased and save the file to your desktop or a folder on your computer. Once the file has been saved to your computer you will be able to view the movie as many times as you like, within the rental time period. The first time you click your downloaded file to play it, you will be prompted for your TLA username and password. Please note that you must be online and connected to the internet the first time that you attempt to play the movie so that you can log in. Also please remember that our passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure your Caps Lock key is not enabled.
Downloading movies can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the speed of your connection. This is due to the high quality of the content. If you do not have a high-speed internet connection, we suggest starting a download early in the day or allowing it run overnight to avoid long wait times.

Why can't I watch a movie?
To view our streaming movies, you will need the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight. If you have not installed/updated the latest version, you can do so for free by using the following link:
- For Microsoft Silverlight, click here.
To view our Download Rentals, or to use the IE Popup Player or the Standalone Windows Media Player you will need the latest version of Windows Media Player. If you have not installed/updated the latest version, you can do so for free by using the following link:
- For Windows Media Player, click here.
Why are some movies blurry?
The quality of playback of a particular movie is relative to the speed of your modem, your connection speed may be too slow to get a high-quality video stream, and therefore the film may appear blurry or be delivered like a film strip instead of a movie.
If you have a fast internet connection (such as a cable modem or FiOS), ensure that you are streaming videos at the highest quality possible by selecting Fast Broadband as your connection speed. If you see a lot of pausing or the video appears to be delivered like a film strip, try stepping your connection speed down to Slow Broadband.
You can adjust your connection speed settings by clicking the toggle butons just below the player window or on theVOD/Digital tab of your account page.
Downloads are usually much better quality than Pay-Per-Minute or Streaming Rentals.
I have purchased a VOD Streaming Rental or Download. Where can I find them?
To access your active rentals, manage your VOD settings, keep track of your TLA VOD history and view your VOD Favorites, simply go to My Account and click the VOD/Digital navigation tab. You will be redirected to the VOD page with links to watch the products you purchased (just click the appropriate tab for the rental type). You can also use the toggle buttons here to select your player preference and connection speed settings. To view your VOD Favorites, just click the navigation tab to the right.
When using Pay-Per-Minute, am I charged for pausing, fast forwarding or rewinding while viewing, or for the time that the player is buffering?
Pausing: Yes, you are charged in real-time usage for pausing. If you wish to cease playback for more than an instant, please use the stop button and return to the scene from which you left off by using the scene selection images. This will ensure that your minutes will not be debited while you're not actively viewing your selection.
Fast-forwarding or Rewinding: No. Since Pay-Per-Minute streams are not cached, there is no way to view them in fast-forward or rewind. However, you can always skip forward or backward in a particular scene or movie simply by using the slide bar to advance or rewind. The player may pause momentarily to re-buffer the stream, but your minutes will never be debited for time spent buffering.
Buffering: No. When you begin a video stream, jump forward or backward in a stream, or if your internet connection speed is too slow, the player may occasionally pause to re-buffer the stream. You will never be charged for time spent buffering, only if you activley click the Pause button on the player.
When I choose a scene for Pay-Per-Minute, the thumbnail image is not the starting point of the scene. How come?
The thumbnail screen captures displayed are not exact matches of the action occurring when a Pay-Per-Minute scene begins. The thumbnail is selected as a reasonable example of the content of that particular scene. The image is taken from a moment in that scene but is often not the starting point.
While I am watching Pay-Per-Minute movies I do not see my remaining minutes decreasing, how do I know how much time I have remaining?
While you are using the Pay-Per-Minute function, the minutes remaining display will not accurately reflect your balance of time until you refresh your browser or click to another page of the site. If you need to know how much time you have left after watching a movie or a scene, simply refresh your browser.
If I am using the Pay-Per-Minute function, will I receive a warning when I start to run out of purchased time?
Yes. As your balance of remaining time decreases while watching a movie, you will be notified that you are close to running out. A pop-up window will appear when you have three minutes remaining and you will be provided a link to purchase more time if you wish to do so. You must have javascript enabled for this to occur. If not, you will not receive a warning.
I have purchased a VOD Download. Can I copy this file from my computer to a DVD or any other format to watch on my television or related player?
No. Downloads are a protected media file that is only licensed for playback on the computer from which you purchase the download. These files cannot be copied, recorded, or transferred to any other media, computer, or playback service. This is to protect the content from copyright infringement. You will only be able to watch these files from the hard drive on your computer.
I have AOL and cannot view videos correctly, what should I do?
The best thing to do is not to use the AOL browser. Sign on and then minimize AOL and launch Internet Explorer from the desktop.
My Minutes Remaining total is incorrect. Why?
The Minutes Remaining total that is displayed at the top of every TLA Video VOD page (once you have logged in) is current as of your current LOGIN to the site. After you log in and you view movies, or purchase additional minute packages, you will notice that this total remains the same. To have the current total for your Minutes Remaining displayed after you view movies or purchase time you must refresh your browser. If, after you refresh your browser, you feel your time is not accurate, please contact customer service for additional help.
Do you have a customer service department?
Yes. You can contact our customer service department by going to our Support Center.
If you'd like to submit a support request for a VOD-related issue, please fill out our VOD Support Request Form and a representative will contact you shortly.
Or you can email us at helpdesk@tlavideo.com or call 1.888.TLA.DVDS (852.3837).
Technical Questions Back To Top
While trying to use VOD, I have experienced problems with my Window Media Player. What should I do?
Our VOD makes use of Window Media software for playback of our download media. This guarantees the best playback possible and tightest security for our content. However, as with all programs and plug-ins, Windows Media Player and/or web browsers can freeze or crash your computer. This should not happen on a regular basis. When using a demanding application like a streaming video player, try not to have other programs running that might be using your computer's resources. If it seems that the player you are using is causing continual problems, please contact the support department at Windows Media Player Support. (http://www.windowsmedia.com/)
Why does my computer crash when I try to view VOD downloads?
As with all programs and plug-ins, Windows Media Player and/or web browsers can freeze or crash your computer. This should not happen on a regular basis. When using a demanding application like a streaming video player, try not to have other programs running that might be using your computer's resources. If it seems that the player you are using is causing continual problems, please contact the support department at Windows Media Player Support. (http://www.windowsmedia.com/)
I just upgraded to windows 8, why isn’t VOD working anymore?
To use our VOD service on windows 8 you must switch to desktop mode (so that the screen looks more like the old windows and not like the new “tiles” interface).
Whether you are using Internet Explorer (IE10 is the default in Windows 8), Firefox or Google’s Chrome browser, you will need to download and install the latest version of Microsoft’s Silverlight.
- Microsoft Silverlight, click here.
If you prefer to use Windows Media Player (which will work only with Internet Explorer), please download the latest version.
- Windows Media Player, click here.
