Taylor of Old Bond Street, London has been making luxury shaving creams in a continuing family tradition since the reign of Queen Victoria. There are several wonderful fragrances to choose from, and a lather so rich and creamy that your skin will be gently fragrant and feel wonderfully smooth for the whole day. Can be used with or without a brush. Each container is 5.3 oz (150g). The cream is placed on either the shaving brush or directly on the palm of the hand and then applied to the face.

I’m a casual shaver. Typically, I wear a fair amount of scruff and shave only every other week. So when I was asked to review Mr. Taylor’s Shaving Cream I was actually excited. As a casual shaver, the act of shaving for me is an enjoyable process. When I decide to do the deed, I spend a good half-hour prepping. Getting my supplies ready, showering and then focusing in on the task at hand.

This shave cream is not typical. It’s not packaged in a sporty container and isn’t some odd, hyper-color foam that expands as it shoots forth from its canister. No, Mr. Taylor’s is old fashioned shave cream. The kind that is often used with a brush (although most people apply it by hand) to apply and ideally, would only be used in conjunction with a straight razor for a real gentlemen’s experience.

I am not a gentleman so I can tell you what I know.

This cream is gentle. Its scent is light and almost coconut scented but overall it’s a refreshing smell. You should use a brush with this cream. At first, I tried applying the cream with my hand and found that its lather was lacking. However, upon breaking out a nice quality badger brush, this cream lathered up in a jif.

I shaved using a store bought razor and honestly didn’t notice a closer shave than my regular gel might give me. However, I didn’t notice as much of a burn after the fact which was a nice surprise.

The 5.3 oz. container provides an ample supply that makes Mr. Taylor’s well worth the money. However, I can’t call this shave cream an everyday use kind of product simply because it works best with a brush. My recommendation? Pick up a container and enjoy Mr. Taylor’s occasionally as a treat.
