A surprisingly enjoyable genre effort from scripter Larry Cohen and director Lustig, the team behind the Maniac Cop films. Uncle Sam follows a similar tack, but with a more interesting theme: Gulf War soldier and all-American jerk Sam is killed by friendly fire in the Middle East, but comes back from the dead to take revenge on all those he deems as un-American. His war-obsessed nephew, who idolizes Sam, begins to suspect the truth behind the rash of murders. Uncle Sam is more engrossing than scary, and less gimmicky than you might think.
