Performance art, New York independent filmmaking and hard-core sex and violence collide in this shocking, determinedly self-indulgent and patently offensive series of shorts. Wallowing in punk-induced nihilism and featuring punk queen Lunch (as well as her poetry), the films, with background punk music by the Butthole Surfers and Sonic Youth, set out to offend all viewers with cheesy depictions of suicide, necrophilia, deviant sexual acts and really sloppy East Village apartments. With pulsating rock music, raunchy images of sex and violence, a brutal penchant for depicting sadomasochism and a "fuck you" punk sensibility, director Kern has determinedly stayed clear of mainstream filmmaking. This features 13 of his shorts, all of which share a common theme of characters on the edge who don't give a damn. Included are: Goodbye 42nd Street, a leisurely photographic stroll through the hellhole that was once 42nd Street; and the infamous Fingered, a tale of sexual obsession that makes Last Tango in Paris seem like simple kindergarten fun. Rock star and professional slut Lydia Lunch stars in the film as she out-Madonnas Madonna with her sexual exhibitionism that sets out to shock, titillate and disturb. The video is in two volumes.
