A truly disappointing, even awful story of individualism, Nazism and swing music. Leonard plays a German teenager who is part of a youthful clique that includes Whaley and Bale. They spend their nights dancing to American swing and days avoiding the Hitler Youth. But these 1930s hipsters soon discover the Nazis are formidable foes as one by one they either join the movement or perish. There were so many situations available to screenwriter Jonathan Marc Feldman that it's doubly disheartening he gave his characters no moral dance steps to go along with their jitterbug, or any emotional depth as they try to sidestep the Nazis.
