The life and times of three not so jolly postmen, centering on Stan, a sullen ladies man who has been deserted by his wife. Stan makes up for his loses by having affairs with his co-workers wives.

This is England as it is rarely shown, a patchwork of bitter individuals, isolated by class, unconsoled in marriage and pigeonholed by the state.
