Review

One of Jim Henson's early moves away from familiar Muppet-based specials, this is a tale of friends and family ties, sacrifice and Holiday spirit. Little Emmet and his Ma are poor otters living in a small but sweet shack on the bank of a river. It's wintertime, and Emmet and Ma want to celebrate by getting each other gifts -- an expenditure they've never been able to afford. Each of them takes something from the other to make music, which they hope will earn them the money they need for their gift ideas. Things don't work out the way they'd like, but an old bullfrog gives the Otters and some friends an unexpected Christmas gift: hope and dignity.
