Crimson Climax is an interesting horror/mystery-flavored hentai that unfolds rather slowly through a complex plot that can often be confusing. Here we have a grab bag of graphic violence and sex and the animation itself, while by no means cutting edge, is clean and much better than the average.

The story begins with the young beautiful Ryo returning to the secluded island where her family originated sometime after losing her troubled mother. We soon come to find that Ryo’s mother was a bit touched to say the least. In flashbacks we see mom getting nailed by many different men. Seemingly unable to control her sexual desires, even going so far as to take her own daughter as a lover. All the while urging young Ryo to never go to the island and babbling something about red flowers. Naturally this only compels the girl to seek out the answers to her past and her mother’s marked insanity.

Once on the Island, Ryo meets up with her cousin and others and learns of the many families that rule there. On the surface, the island is almost perfect but there is something far more sinister afoot. A bizarre sex cult, led by a creepy priest, is luring and sacrificing young women to their God in order for its members to achieve immortality or something. The priest for his part seems to take great delight in turning out the sacrifices before they are killed. And even Ryo’s own cousin is a member, assisted in her evil religious work by these creepy maniquin things that are created from the body parts of the cult’s victims. Things get even more confusing from here as the twisty plot unweaves through blood, sex and meandering dialogue. With all this intrigue and the various clues revealed little by little (and with no obvious logical progression) it was almost impossible to follow at times. Fortunately there was enough gruesome horror and crazy sex stuff to keep up the pace. Overall Crimson Climax is a compelling and quality hentai worthy of repeated viewings. If for no other reason than to figure out what the hell is going on at that damn island.
