“Ptown Diaries” is an amazing new documentary that looks at the history of Provincetown, Massachusetts from the time the Pilgrims landed to its present day status as a gay Mecca. There are so many different groups that have come to Provincetown—New Englanders, Portuguese fishermen, bohemian artists, gay men and lesbians that if the town could talk, it would have quite a story to tell. Ptown was the first artist colony in America and it hosted Eugene O’Neill and Tennessee Williams. It became home to the eccentric and it as maintained its vibrant past and beauty.
Included in the documentary are members of the current population and we are given a look at how history and people have come together to preserve the area. There are some wonderful little tidbits of history here. It seems that everyone who goes there falls in love with the place and we see that in what they have to say. We get to see the heart of the town as well as the wildness that sometimes takes place there but more than anything else we see Ptown as a mix of history, art and natural beauty.
