REVIEW
In this film adaptation of Miller's novel, the right talent, the right prose and the right direction come together seamlessly to paint three powerful portraits of women in transition. Sedgwick gives one of her best performances as an abused wife and mother who learns to reclaim her power. Posey pulls from a place deep within for her portrayal of a woman whose advancing career and painful family history force her to reevaluate her stagnant marriage. And Balk makes waves as a hip, goth girl who is brought face-to-face with the troubles of her past. Truly magical is Velocity’s ability to create characters with histories, the kind whose every experience is reflected in their present. It’s a testament to Miller’s detailed screenplay and actresses who understand how to live inside a role. --Mekado Murphy
