Men in Motion: The Art and Passion of the Male Dancer
SYNOPSISFrançois Rousseau, author of the best-selling Locker Room Nudes, affords us private and exclusive access to more than 60 dancers from across the world, and the world of dance. Members of classical dance companies, including Opera de Paris and the New York City Ballet, and contemporary dance troupes, such as Alvin Ailey and Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane, as well as dancers from disciplines as diverse as Broadway, hip hop, acrobatic, and folk are spotlighted both on and offstage. Rousseau captures the innate eroticism of these artists as they pose, prepare, and perform. These men, whether seen in their most personal times of self-reflection or public moments under the spotlight, are proof that the body is truly a thing of beauty. Whether solo or en masse, their energy and virility leaps from the stage, and the page.
REVIEW
There is always something sexy associated with the phrase “he’s a dancer!” I know my ears perk up when I hear that line. Maybe it is the way that these men know how to manipulate their bodies and the intense muscle control that they possess. I think it also indicates that their bodies are toned to perfection with legs and buttocks developed to extreme proportions. In the capable hands of famed photographer François Rousseau, these men are transformed into birds caught in flight. The grace on display is extraordinary and snapped in motion the muscles straining to achieve the ideal position is pure genius. With bodies formed and developed from years of disciplined training, these men are the Prince Charming we grew up longing for after the first time we saw the Nutcracker on PBS. In nothing but their dance belts, or less, these men put all of their athletic ability on display. And thanks to Rousseau’s immense talent, we are treated to frozen glimpses of perfection in motion. We should also note that there is nothing retouched here and that is exactly how we prefer our men. With dancers from some of the most important companies in the world, this collection is a must for any fan of dance and dancers 3 REASONS TO BUY THIS BOOK
