Queer as Folk: The Complete First Season
Queer as Folk: The Complete First Season (American Version)
Incredible, essential television - a totally queer soap, guaranteed to glue you to the screen.
REVIEW
Queer As Folk is unquestionably the gay cultural phenomena of the new millennium. The master behind the scenes is Russell Davies, the writer who created the characters who have captivated the queer world for two years. Showtime, with incredible wisdom, produced a Queer as Folk soap opera that could conceivably run forever, with characters we can all identify with. The American Queer as Folk is set in a mythical Pittsburgh - it's not West Hollywood or the West Village - it's a blue collar city where gay people co-exist with straight - just like where most of us live. (It's actually filmed in Toronto, Canada)
Brian (Harold) is the gay man in the cast most despised and lusted after. He's rich, arrogant, self-absorbed and a total hunk. Michael (Sparks), is his best friend. He, like all the guys, lusts after Brian. Michael is a working-class department store manager, even-tempered and loved by all. Justin (Harrison) is 17, still in high school and totally adorable (the whole cast is actually). Justin is also in love with Brian - but alas they are only "fuck buddies". Lindsay (Gill) is the mother of Brian's son (artificial insemination of course). She's a house mom who is dedicated to her baby and sometimes to her lover Melanie (Clunie). Melanie is a lawyer, she's Jewish and a very combative, soft butch. Ted (Lowell) is an accountant who in search of love has met a club boy with a crystal meth problem. Emmett(Paige) is his super fag best friend who tries to steer innocent Ted clear of trouble. Debbie (Gless) is Michael's mother and the waitress at their favorite diner. Debbie is PFLAG personified, covered in buttons - she worships her gay son and all his friends - she's the show cheerleader.
This American/British/Canadian creation is soap opera at its finest. Characters we can call our own, great drama and romance - and the cast is real easy on the eyes!

I love this show. All the characters are great and I can relate to all of them.
Justin(17) plays a high school student who is one of Brian's(29) one night stands. Brian is a hunk who can get into any guys pants. Michael(29) plays Brians best friend and gets jealous of Brian and Justin's relationship. Emmett(plays Alexander from QAF British Version) and is one of my favorite characters cause he's not afraid to let loose. Ted(early 30s) one of Emmett's best friends. All these characters with a lesbian couple just try to make in Pittsburg. It's like a Sex And The City for all people. This show is awesome it's for everyone!
Not good for uk residents!

So we refer to this as Queer as gay Porn. But what is not to love about it. I bought the DVD set and was so adicted to it, I watched it for 3 days until I finished it. It is very erotic at times and has good story lines. Go buy it, you won't be sorry.
Queer As Folk is one of the most amazing TV Shows ever and is a landmark as the show for the new millennium. The Queer As Folk DVD Box Set has all 22 episodes of the first season of the most controversial and bravest series in the history of television. The total running time of all 6 DVD's is approx: 1,205 minutes which includes Bonus features such as: behind the scenes outtakes, deleted scenes, special edition episodes, a Photo Gallery, DVD rom extras, A 5 minute Season 2 Sneek Peek, and much more. Queer As Folk shows the life of a group of gay guys and a lesbian couple living in Pittsburgh. Now I had been hearing so much about this amazing Showtime series for sometime, yet I had never seen a single episode as I did not have Showtime, but then in July of 2001 I heard this show was coming to DVD in its entire first season and I knew I was in for a real treat. I waited up until the very day of Queer As Folks release date on January 8, 2002 and I purchased this DVD collection not knowing what to expect. I knew it was a gamble to buy a $89.99 DVD collection of something I had never seen before, but I went with my heart and I bought it. I can honestly say this was truly one of the BEST DVD investments I have ever made. When I got home I knew it was gonna be a while before i watched all 22 episodes and as i got through the first 2 pilot episodes I was hooked and so excited to see the next episode, just as I am when I watch The Young And The Restless. It took me 3 days to watch all of the episodes and I am amazed at how honest this show is on dealing with gay life. Queer As Folk makes no apologies and thats what is so great about this series. From the graphic sex scenes to the drama of dealing with the prejudice that still haunts America, this show is so brave and I give Showtime a big thumbs up for having the balls to take on such a big risk as Queer As Folk. This show is as close as it gets to real life. his is not a show just for gay people, but for al people. It deals with human emotion and thats something we can all relate to whether we be straight, gay, bisexual, black, white, brown or in between. I have since signed up for Showtime just for this show. I encourage anyone who has a open mind and a open heart to BUY this amazing DVD collection as it will inspire you and if nothing else open your mind to a lifestyle not as uncommon as you may think. Watch more than one episode before you judge this amazing series.
