REVIEW
Two Brothers
This moving gay family drama proves the success of digital video and the tenacity of a young aspiring filmmaker who spent only $545 Canadian dollars to make this witty film. Twenty-something cutey-pie Riley moves from his small town to Vancouver to live with his brother Chad (Cody Campbell) after the death of his mother. While driving to the big city he picks up cute hitchhiker Gavin, whom we meet later as Riley's first adult love. Tall, lanky and excited, Riley is quickly confronted by his now distant brother, who was estranged from the family for years. But while they attempt to reconnect and resolve their guarded familial emotions, Riley is also interested in exploring his gay sexuality in the big city. Along the way he bonds with Tobie, Chad’s cute girlfriend and later has his first love affair with Gavin. This film, with a compelling story, excellent and relaxed acting, gels in a way many big-budget features never do. The romance and pain are real - the faux-pas have happened to all of us. Recommended, if only as a lesson for Hollywood - tell us a good story - save a few bucks.
How did he make a film so cheaply? "With a lot of friendship and a small number of people…there are four actors, one editor, a composer and that’s it. And me, who did everything else."
--Raymond Murray
Birthday Time
Christopher is three days away from his eighteenth birthday and desperate to get his first gay kiss. His best friend and crush, Jonathan, isn't willing or ready to pucker up, so after school Christopher sneaks into the neighborhood gay bar, Flapjax. There he almost gets his smooch from a drunk, frisky middle-aged man in the bathroom, but thanks to the bartender is booted out first. All seems lost until Christopher's mother announces that she's leaving town for the weekend and has arranged for a guardian to stay over – Tom, a married-with-children sort who happens to be the guy from Flapjax. With a determined teen in one corner, and a confused closet case with skewed mores in another, the struggle for a birthday kiss REALLY begins...
Cruise Control
Josh is one of the hottest guys at the Flapjax nightclub. With his worked-out body and striking looks, he can get anyone he wants. But he usually goes home alone. Why? Because when he sees someone he wants, he makes a wierd face from hell which sends prospective tricks/boyfriends running away, horrified and creeped out. But on this one particular evening he might encounter someone special, someone who may be willing to take home the whole package. Features appearances by David Drake, Kelvin Walker and Anthony Rapp.
When I first got this movie and saw that it was filmed primarily with a hand held camera. I thought oh boy I just wasted twenty bucks. But then something happened I started paying attention to the story and the acting and soon forgot about the camera. This movie is a very moving story and the acting was quite good. I would gladly fork out another 20 bucks for Richard Bells next movie. The ones who wrote reviews giving this a zero did not watch this movie they gave it two minutes and turned it off otherwise they couldn't have made the statements they did. There are two shorts with this dvd also. Birthday Time which is quite good also. The other is Cruise Control which takes a humorous look at the bar cruising scene. Back to Two Men if you can get past the digital video aspect. You will be happy you got this movie. There was more quality in this movie that cost under $600.00 to make than I've seen come out of Hollywood costing millions. Buy it.
P.S. I'm not related to anyone affiliated with this movie, Nor do I know anyone affilated with this movie.

This was a waste of my time AND money. The producer/writer needed to have devote more time creating a script; a concentrated effort on "acting lessons" would have been MORE HELPFUL than a script. SAVE YOUR MONEY - avoid this movie.
Two brothers is a wonderful movie made with a lot of feeling. The director/producer has done a great job with virtually no budget. The characters are real and the story is touching. It is a love story on one hand, but, also a tale of family bonds and struggles.
An Incredible Movie!

This movie touched my heart and soul! It has an intimacy and truthfulness that is so lacking in cinema today. The acting is superb, the story line and scriptwriting top rate. The black and white photgraphy has so much warmth to it and matches the tenderness and vulnerability of the characters. A movie that exposes the trials that we all go through with clarity and uplifting poignancy. Gay or stright, you'll love this film. All-in-all, a super cinematic experience from director Richard Bell.
