REVIEW
Fassbinder's stunning 15½-hour epic is set in post-WWI Germany and continues through the birth and growth of Nazism. Simply told, it's the story of a slow-witted Berlin transit worker who, after accidentally killing his girlfriend and serving time, unwittingly becomes involved in the Berlin underworld. Originally produced for German TV, Fassbinder's masterpiece is one of the few films in our collection that probably works better on home video rather than at a theater. (German with English subtitles)
