SYNOPSISPublishing exec Carly Norris (Stone) takes an apartment in an exclusive "sliver" building in New York, only to learn that the previous tenant, who bore a great resemblance to Carly, died in a mysterious fall from the apartment balcony. When other tenants of the building begin to mysteriously die, Carly begins to suspect that a killer may be inhabiting the building and that it may be either Zeke (Baldwin), the voyeuristic building owner with whom she's become involved romantically, or Jack (Berenger), a suspicious mystery writer.
REVIEW
No, the title doesn't refer to the amount of logic within the plot, but to a Manhattan luxury high-rise apartment building plagued by a series of unexplained deaths. Stone plays a recently divorced and sexually frustrated book editor (it could happen) who moves into the "horror high-rise" where romance and terror await in the form of Baldwin and Berenger. As penned by Joe Eszterhas and stylishly directed by Noyce, what might have been a trenchant study of voyeurism and social responsibility is reduced to a slick, trashy and befuddled whodunit with a dime-store resolution.
