SYNOPSISThis Filipino examination of sexual mores, religion and violence has been described as wild, surreal and disturbing. It tells the story of a pair of young women from a small village whose views of sexuality couldn't be more different. Tonya (former Miss Philippines Maria Isable Lopez) teaches catechism to the young children of the village and rubs sand on her vagina to curb her sexual desires. Selda (Sarsi Emmanuelle), on the other hand, has come back from the city with a free-spirited sense of sexuality and copulates with many men in the village. This film is shocking, not only because it was made under the totalitarian Marcos regime in an overwhelmingly Catholic country, but because it's brutal violence and graphic sexuality is so extreme that even more liberal Western audiences found it outrageous.Warning: This film contains unsimulated scenes of animal cruelty and (rumored) scenes of unsimulated sex. It is intended for Mature audiences only. -- Rick Stanko
