Devil in a Blue Dress director Franklin and star Washington reunite for this slight but thoroughly entertaining noir. Denzel is quite good as Matt Whitlock, a Florida small–town police chief who swipes some drug money being held as evidence to help a dying friend. When she dies in a suspicious fire, Matt becomes the number one suspect. Of course, things spiral out of control, and the last hour of the film is pure suspense as Whitlock attempts to elude both the feds and his soon–to–be ex–wife Alex (Mendes), who's investigating the arson case, while trying to figure out exactly what's going on. Scaled–back with only a few action scenes and twists, Out of Time is nevertheless a lean thriller that's never less than involving and will keep you on the edge of your seat for most of its running time.
