This hard-edged but still quite funny and endearing hit follows the misadventures of a group of unemployed steelworkers who band together to take it all off! When a local performance of The Chippendales sells-out, divorced dad Gaz (Carlyle) reasons anything they can do, he can do almost as well. He rounds up a group of cohorts -- all suffering under Northern England's economic crunch -- to form their own strip group, including best friend Dave (Addy), who's endearingly slow-witted and a bit overweight; Guy (Speer), a looker whose endowment is perfect for the job; and Gerald (Wilkinson), an uptight, middle-aged former foreman. The group is the unlikeliest candidates to draw a sell-out crowd, but their antics together most definitely are charming, often hilarious and guaranteed to keep a smile on one's face. The entire cast is splendid, but Carlyle is especially fine as the good-hearted Gaz. The Full Monty is a treat from beginning to end.
