Synopsis

Based on the popular computer game, this action/thriller pits a group of commandos against the living dead, who are the result of biochemical experiments.

Review

Based on the extremely popular (and extremely violent) video game, Resident Evil should have been gory, scary fun. It's merely gory. Jovovich plays an amnesiac corporate agent who must do battle with zombified office workers (and other creatures) when an experimental drug is released in an underground lab. Mildly entertaining for a short while — mostly due to anticipation of the zombies to come — this quickly becomes almost a chore to sit through. The zombies aren't very scary or cool, the characters are nil, and the CGI effects are unconvincing. The film is also derivative in the extreme (there's a particularly egregious steal from the superior Cube), with writer-director Anderson giving up around the midway point and recycling every cliché from the Living Dead and Alien films. Okay, zombie movies tend to be moronic, but they occasionally are fun. This one doesn't come close. Resident Evil, like the crummy Tomb Raider before it, just feels like you're watching someone else play a video game.

Nothing sickens me moreso than reading reviews written by people who have little or absolutely no experience (and have absolutely no IDEA what they are talking about).

Resident Evil is no AFI Top 100 pick, and it will never set any money records, but heck, 100 picks is nothing in the grand scheme.

The movie is violent. Duh.
The games are violent. Duh.

If that will suede you away from watching this movie, you scare me quite honestly. This is not the Little House on the Prarie. Resident Evil is a full throttle action movie. When I saw full throttle, I mean it because the action never stops. This may or may not enhance your experience. If you've never played the games and don't have an overall background on the situation, don't count on the movie to stop and explain it to you.

Overall, Resident evil is a solid movie which adds to an already huge release week.
