Review

Three-part film by New York directors Scorsese, Coppola and Allen. Scorsese's Life Lessons stars Nolte as a moody and talented painter tormented by the end of his relationship with his apprentice/lover Arquette. The second segment, Coppola`s Life without Zoe, is a cold story of a bratty child's indulgent birthday party. The final film, Allen's Oedipus Wrecks, is the lifesaver of the three, and one of Allen's funniest works. Allen stars as a successful lawyer who is haunted, nagged and criticized by his ever-present mother, wonderfully portrayed by Questel (the original voice of Betty Boop). Not wholly successful, but still an interesting venture.
