Synopsis

This edge–of–your–seat psychological thriller is directed by David Slade and features Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page. Precocious 14–year–old Hayley probably shouldn't be going to a local coffee shop to meet Jeff, a 30–something fashion photographer she met on the Internet. But before she knows it, she's mixing drinks at Jeff's place and stripping for an impromptu photo shoot. It seems to be Jeff's lucky night. But Hayley isn't as innocent as she looks, and the night takes a turn when she begins to impose a hard–hitting investigation on Jeff in an attempt to reveal his possibly scandalous past.

Fourteen–year–old Hayley Stark (Ellen Page), more sophisticated than her innocent demeanor would suggest, agrees to meet Jeff Kohlver (Patrick Wilson), who has been working his charm on her via online chats. Fully aware that she is playing with fire, Hayley agrees to go home with this irresistible fashion photographer who preys on young women. A cocktail later, and the scene is set for one of the most intense standoffs in recent cinematic memory. The delicious and disturbing game of cat and mouse, and the ensuing revelations that are uncovered, toy with our sympathies—just what are the avenging angel's motives? Hard Candy has been justly honored with awards and accolades, including Best Film and Best Screenplay at Spain's prestigious Sitges Film Festival. The stylish production design and atmospheric score hint at David Slade's prior accomplishments directing commercials and music videos. His feature film debut is most impressive for his skillful handling of the superbly confrontational and manipulative script. This movie is absolutely sick! I'd prefer Hostel and Hostel 2!! Ellen Page's fan alert!! She is no Juno here. You will hate her every second you watch this movie and erase all your memory from Juno. She also proves that she can make you love her and she can make you hate her just as much. For similar type of movie, please try "24th hour" starring Scott Speedman.
