Synopsis

Four old married friends get together for a dinner that will test their friendship and their fidelity.

Review

MacDowell and Quaid play an upper-middle-class couple whose world is rocked when longtime friends Kinnear and Collette decide to divorce. Never less than engrossing, Dinner with Friends is also not very subtle; it's less insightful and dramatic than Woody Allen's similar Husbands and Wives, for example. Still, Jewison's adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play does contain many good moments and painful truths about marriage and friendship, and the four actors give excellent, knowing performances.
