Synopsis

Two twisted sisters live in their own self-made hell. William Clift's Baby Jane? takes its cue from the original cult classic starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford...but continually takes the audience down unexpected twists and turns.

The film begins with Baby Jane as a famous brat child star, then transitions to her failed attempt at becoming a big fat movie star like her sister Blanche until a tragic gate accident makes Blanche’s spine…kinda snap. Baby Jane gives up her career to take care of her disabled sister, waiting on her hand and foot, every gawd damn day!

Until one day, Baby Jane has had enough! We watch her slowly unravel, taking it out on her poor disabled sister Blanche, the housekeeper Elvira (Blanche’s secret “special friend”), the nosey neighbor Mrs. Bates and her ding dong daughter, Gloria. All through this, Blanche plays the victim role when in actuality she is just a manipulating bitch!

I had hoped for a Charles Bush take of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane . What I got is a peice of crap for a story line , and actors who do not even come anywhere near the ranks of Charles Bush .
What I got was a waste of 25 dollars . I do not recomend watching this bad acting ,bad script , just plain bad movie .

If you don't know the Baby Jane story, then see the film - coz I aint going into that here!
Brush up on your Fav. Bette or Joan lines - sit down with a long stiff one ( drink I mean) and go for and with it!
This is a fabulous trip and one that is well worth taking more than once! Get it and keep it!!!!
Oh and watch Baby Jane again (and also Sweet Charlotte!)

A Drag Recreation and a Great One

Bette Davis and Joan Crawford seem to have always been drag icons for the gay community and their film “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” was been a wonderful source for one-liners. Now Billy Clift has taken the classic film and gives us his version of it and it is pure fun. Originally filmed in 1962, the film was a study of two sisters who hate each other but are forced to live together because of their financial situations. Baby Jane was a child star and Blanche, her sister is confined to a wheelchair. They were both stars but their past lives were not so pretty. Baby Jane will not let go of her status as a once vaudeville legend and now as she is older (but no wiser) spends her days getting drunk and abusing her sister. This does not seem to bother Blanche whose spirit is high.

Clift’s film is a brilliant parody/satire of the original and Matthew Martin as Baby Jane and J. Conrad Frank as Blanche are wonderful. Martin has Bette Davis down pat and he gives quite the performance but I must state that Frank matches his every move. The film is in your face and over the top. In fact everything here is perfect—the sets and detail are amazing and at times I felt as if I was watching the original again. The satire does not poke fun at Crawford and Davis but rather glorifies them in a way that we do not often see.

This is camp at its highest and it’s so good to have camp back. The younger members of the GLBT community will probably be a bit bewildered by what they see but what a wonderful introduction for them to see what camp really is. Billy Clift both wrote and directed this film which is a non-stop laugh fest.

I met Billy Clift a few years ago online and when I heard he was making this film, I literally begged him for a screener. It took two years to get it and when it arrived yesterday, I sat down to watch it, forsaking my viewing of “Big Love”, season 4 and James Franco’s bravura performance as Allen Ginsberg in “Howl”. And I had a great time. I have no idea when this will be released commercially or on DVD but I do want to get the word out that it indeed exists and so that everyone can be on the lookout for it.
