Part social drama and part thriller (without much thrills), Just Cause stars Connery as a Harvard Law professor who attempts to prove the innocence of a young black man (Underwood) convicted of murder and sentenced to die. When Connery travels to Underwood's small Florida town to investigate, he comes in conflict with the town's redneck black sheriff (Fishburne) who helped put the youth away. Similar to Malice insofar that the film starts in one direction and switches gears halfway through, Just Cause's change is not for the better: What begins as an involving story of injustice gives way to a ridiculous revenge fantasy. Harris has a small but forceful cameo as a serial killer.
