Review

No stranger to controversy, Oliver Stone serves up a volatile mix of politics and conspiracy. Technically brilliant and impressively acted, Stone's triumphant speculative drama is based on New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison's experience in bringing charges for the murder of John F. Kennedy. Fiercely debated, the film suggests that Lee Harvey Oswald was merely a patsy for others criminally responsible. Whether or not you believe Stone's version of that fateful day's events, there's no denying JFK is a labor of love for the director, and he has crafted a fascinating and often spellbinding dissertation. Costner is well–cast as the impassioned D.A. Among a first–rate supporting cast, Jones, Bacon, Oldman and particularly Sutherland are impressive.
