Sexual politics in the corporate workplace are played out by two mid-America average white boys who consider life to be out of balance whenever they're not on top. Outraged that women no longer appear to be blissfully relegated to an inherently subservient role, these two nondescript nonentities set up a cruel game on an unsuspecting victim -- a deaf temp new to the office in which they're temporarily stationed. Consciously equating their own dignity with the willful abasement of another human being, these small, ineffectual, scared men look for any available easy target to bolster their self-esteem, back-stabbing with off-handed impartiality. Their myriad frailities and insecurities bubble to boiling as their game turns into a rivalry. The director's script plays well with competent acting and maximum use of modest production values. In the Company of Men is a controversial, virulent dark comedy which will undoubtedly offend some by its cavalier manner and intrigue others with both its uncompromising examination of the male psyche and an unnerving, biting comic voice.
