If you love dark, strange, wildly funny cult flicks... skip this inept relic, which snow-jobbed major 70's critics and film festival panels into taking it seriously, apparently because it was the first "Warhol" movie (all Andy did was put up the money)to be shot in L.A. and starred perennially desperate Actors Studio barnacle Sylvia Miles (five years before her triumph as a nude lesbian cannibal in THE SENTINEL) as a washed-up Hollywood footnote (sounds right)who pulls a studly young deadbeat into her delusional world. Sound familiar? Yes, it is a tad similar to SUNSET BLVD! The difference is here there's no script, shamefully amateurish direction and a dose of bi-sexy sleaze to divert your attention from the fact that this hideously self-indulgent cheapie feels longer than an Andrew Lloyd Webber show. Obviously the work of Paul Morrissey. Joe Dallesandro is of course the male lead, but unfortunately the role requires considerably more acting ability than naked beefcake, so Joe's in big trouble. It's left to real-life psycho Andrea Feldman (whose horrifying midtown suicide took place weeks after this was released) and the late, lamented, delicously appalling Pat Ast to try to save the picture. Pat, giving the movie's lone good performance, is hilariously repellent as Joe's bitchy, sex-starved motel manager and has a classic fight scene with real-life psycho Sylvia-- it's rumored Pat hated her Oscar-nominated co-star as much as her agents at ICM did.
