Logan Crane's life changed dramatically the day a blind fit of temper resulted in him accidentally injuring his wife. Although he's now in an abuser counseling program, Logan cannot face the real source of his unhappiness: he's always been attracted to men but has refused to accept it since witnessing an act of violence.
During his therapy, Logan meets Nick Zales, a counselor at a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Nick is understandably suspicious of Logan despite an immediate attraction to him. Logan feels the same attraction and faces a critical internal struggle as he finds himself falling in love with this enigmatic man.
Both men are haunted by unacknowledged ghosts and abuse in their pasts. How can they help each other heal if they continue to ignore their own wounds?
Where the Allegheny Meets the Monongahela is a good book. Felicia Watson is a gifted writer who knows how to tell a story. This story is about Nick, a counselor at a shelter for abused women, and Logan, an abuser who is volunteered to teach a mechanics class to shelter residents. Nick has his ideas about Logan and isn’t too thrilled about what this situation could mean to the women involved, but he has his own issues. Logan isn’t exactly an open book, but his darkest secret is threatened by Nick’s presence.
With domestic abuse as a backdrop to the story of Nick and Logan, the reader is reminded throughout the book that this isn’t all about love and romance. As the plot develops, we find out what has plagued both Logan and even Nick throughout their lives. An unlikely pair in any estimation, they work together to make sense of what things life has dealt each of them individually and together. Ethics and a sense of duty is a warring issue for Nick and could cost him a lot. Logan is fearful of losing his daughters. What’s going to happen?
I was a little offput by the grammar/language of the characters, especially some of the made up words and contractions (“you’ins”?). I guess I don’t really know how folks in Pennsylvania talk but I’d bet someone would be a little offended by that.
All in all, I enjoyed the book, and I would recommend it as a quick and entertaining read. Give it a try!
