From Vintage Paper Store comes this clever collection of five greeting cards that re-purpose old photographs.
1. The "Don't be a bitch..." blank card -- This is one of our personal favorites! This image comes from a real photo postcard and was shot between 1910 and 1924. The card was never sent so we're not sure where these two lovers were from - and they were pretty obviously a couple. This is a 5x7 card that folds on the side.
2. "What We've Got is Special" Love Card -- One of the very earliest real photo postcards, this image dates from 1898 to 1901. Postage was one cent and times looked sweet to us. Were these guys brothers, best friends or boyfriends? We don't really know, all we can do is enjoy the beautiful image on this top folding 5x7 card.
3. "Two Men Smiling on the Beach" -- A real photo postcard, this captivating image is from 1924 in Germany. As the German beaches are all on the chilly North Sea, that explains the robes! We left this card blank inside because we thought you'd have ideas as to why these two guys are smiling and more importantly, who took this picture and why? This is a 5x7 top-fold card.
4. "It's Time to Celebrate Birthday Card" -- While these men look like they could be on a date in Chelsea, circa 2011, we think this photo is from the 1930s, and it just have been shot in Chelsea, NYC. This snapshot has so much verve we just fell in love with these two guys.
5. "People Say We Look Like Brothers" (Inside: That's What Happens When Two People Love Each Other So Much) -- These young bicyclists were photographed in the studio of Minneapolis C.H.Galbraith in the 1920s. (Gay playwright Noel Coward popularized turtleneck sweaters at that time.) We are just in love with this photograph and pleased that it makes such a stunning greeting card. We hope you enjoy the image as much as we do.
All Vintage Paper Store images are genuine antique images from our own private collection. We've been collecting gay photographs for nearly thirty years and very excited to be creating this greeting card collection.
