Synopsis

Secrets, love and betrayal in the new suburbia.

Eddie is torn between his boyfriend Thomas and his traditional Latino family's expectations - particularly his hyper machismo brother. When Eddie is shot, Thomas and his quirky friends Marty and Jake get together to try to solve the mystery of who could have put a hit on him. Fearing for both the shooter and Thomas' homophobic brother, Marty takes Thomas into safe hiding while Jake uses his expertise as a peeping tom to discover the neighborhood secrets.

Marty has problems of his own when his boyfriend and girlfriend find out that he has been sleeping with both of them. Taking a cue from Jake, Marty discovers secrets of his own when spying on his friends. And, when a surprise fourth person is discovered mingling in the three-some mix, the outcome could be deadlier than the hit man.

Naked twinks, bisexual threesomes, student/teacher liaisons, voyeurism, sexual fluidity, gossip and murder. It's just another day in the suburbs for the scrumptious young characters in Unsolved Suburbia - a new slice of ultra-low-budget erotica from director Cheetah Gonzalez.

The story is all over the place. We're first introduced to Marty (Johnny Lockhart) - a very cute young student who runs into trouble when his boyfriend Michael (Kiyoshi Shishido) and girlfriend Anybodys (Georgia Visser) discover that he has been two-timing both of them. After the trio decides to settle into a ménage à trois, news arrives that their good friend Eddie (David Blanco) has been shot and possibly killed. Eddie had been dating Thomas (Alexander Dissan), much to the chagrin of his religiously strict Latino family. Marty soon leaves his threesome behind to find out who would have wanted Eddie dead.

Though it has few locations and a mere 66-minute running time, Unsolved Suburbia can be surprisingly difficult to follow. Names are dropped long before characters are established - or even introduced - and, in the beginning, it's often impossible to know what the hell anyone is talking about. And, while Johnny Lockhart holds his own in the lead, the "acting" from the enormous cast of first-timers is largely embarrassing for all involved parties - including the viewer.

But hey, we're not really in it for cohesive storytelling, are we? We're in it for the cute boys and frequent full-frontal nudity. You'll be happy to know that Unsolved Suburbia doesn't skimp on the eye-candy. There is lots of softcore action, the guys look absolutely adorable in their tight little underwear and bathing suits and they're not very shy about showing off the whole package. Twink-lovers will not be disappointed - everyone else might.

Ariztical has really upped the ante with their last few movies that have all been very good. Staying in that tradition, they are bringing us “Unsolved Suburbia”, a drama about secrets and betrayal. Eddie has a boyfriend, Thomas, A Latino whose family has certain expectations of him so he is torn before boyfriend and family. Thomas’s brother is also out-and-out homophobic, Eddie gets shot and Thomas and his friends Marty and Jake try to find out who did it and why and Marty who is afraid of what might happen to Thomas from both his brother and the shooter take him to a place where he will be safe. At the same time Jake tries to find out what is going on in the neighborhood in reference to this whole business.
Marty has his own problems. His boyfriend and his girlfriend discover that he has been sleeping with both of them but then Marty also uncovers some secrets of his own and suddenly everything looks much more serious. The acting is excellent and we get a look at what goes on in a Latino family when one of the sons is gay. Cheetah Gonzalez, the director, has done a fine job with his film.
