Synopsis

A young, fit and terrifically handsome Richard Harris stars in this gritty portrait of a star rugby player trying to escape his working class background. There is a superb locker room scene early with an extraordinary naked hot tub scene. There's a few naked butts, one might be Harris, who knows?

Review

Richard Harris gives a career performance as Frank Machin, a Yorkshire lad who tries to escape the restrictions of his working-class background and his personal limitations by becoming a star on the city rugby team. Gritty and stark, peopled with great performances. Screenplay by David Storey based on his book; produced by Karel Reisz and perceptively directed by Anderson.
