Review

A filmed musical stage play, The Truth is the powerful story of a black family that's in a state of crises without even knowing it. Two of the men in the Sutton family are living a lie as "straight" men when in fact they like to "kick it back" with their boys. Performed in Washington DC to packed houses, this play packs a powerful punch of emotion; be prepared. Think Tyler Perry without Madea, a gay storyline and throw in a few great tunes.

Olivia Sutton (Tracie Jade) is the matriarch of a family that's moving on. Her son Chris (Marlon Anthony Russ) is a high school football hero with not much to show on his report card. Her daughter Tiffany (JaWuana Lindsey) has just finished her master's program and is bringing home her soon-to-be-husband Donnie. Chris's friend AJ (LC Harden, Jr.) comes over to hang out, and it's soon clear that these two young men are lovers. AJ's ready to come out, but Chris is firmly in the closet. He doesn't want his devout Christian family to know that he's gay. And then when Donnie meets AJ mysterious sparks fly.
With moving musical interludes and fine acting, this well-paced stage play is never less than compelling. One thing to keep in mind here is that this is a stage play filmed on a micro-budget. The technical aspects are not of the highest caliber, but the play and message shine through loud and clear.

My date brought this play over and we through it on as a ice breaker, and before we knew it we forgot about having sex and found ourselves glued to the TV set. The play was amazing and kept our interest all the way through. Great job to all involved

I love this stage play. My lover and I go to the theater a lot and I have never seen such honesty on stage, the direction was amazing taking a small venue and making all who watch think they they are apart of the Sutton family. Tracie Jade should be a movie star, and I think her first movie should be "THE TRUTH" great work Restoration Stage, can't wait to purchase "Drag On"

I saw this play in Miami a few years ago and was blown away by the script. I am 55 years old and I have never seen our stories told in such a respectable way! Well done Mr. Playwright! Well done. I purchased 20 copies this holiday season for my friends and family. It's a play that all liberals should see.

Let me just say that, this is the best stage play I have ever seen. The actors in this piece should all be famous, and the actor who plays Christopher Sutton makes more than just my heartthrob. Get this DVD.
