Synopsis

Though it doesn't feature overt gay content, we think The Perfect Host is just the kind of twisted little indie flick that our gay customers can get behind. Beloved, openly gay Emmy® and Tony® Award-winner David Hyde Pierce gives a deliriously over-the-top (in a good way) performance in this suspenseful, pitch-black comedy/thriller. Just imagine Niles from "Frasier" letting his inner psychopath out to play!

Warwick Wilson (Pierce) is the consummate host. He carefully prepares for a dinner party, the table impeccably set and the duck perfectly timed for 8:30 p.m.

John Taylor (thuggish hottie Clayne Crawford) is a career criminal. He’s just robbed a bank and needs to get off the streets. He finds himself on Warwick’s doorstep posing as a friend of a friend, new to Los Angeles, who’s been mugged and lost his luggage.

As the wine flows and the evening progresses, we become deeply intertwined in the lives of these two men and discover just how deceiving appearances can be.

With outstanding performances, writer/director Nick Tomnay takes us on a suspense-filled ride where nothing is as it seems. The Perfect Host is a slippery psychological thriller that exposes true human nature and reveals just how far we’re willing to go to satisfy our needs.

If you like thrillers, this is a movie that you do not want to miss. It is the story of a criminal on the lam who goes to a dinner party and tries to con the host but…….
Warwick Wilson (David Hyde Pierce) and John Taylor (Clayne Crawford) compete in trying to get the goat of each other. They are two dangerous characters who match each other step for step. John is on the lam from a caper that went bad and looks for a place to hide. He cons his way into Wilson’s home and John soon becomes the victim. Roles were reversed from what we thought would be.
Warwick Wilson seems to be a mild mannered man and then his home is invaded by bank robber, John Taylor. Wilson was expecting dinner guests but he allows Taylor into his home. From that point on we have a cat and mouse game between three people—in addition to Wilson and Taylor, we have a police detective who is under the impression that he is closing the books on a bank robbery but the invasion by Taylor changes everything.
Nick Tomnay cleverly directed this film which was a hit at Sundance and it combines thriller with comedy. The acting is excellent all around and while not perfect, this is a very clever movie.
