A spirited Hollywood romp that features both a great cast as well as an enjoyable lesbian subplot. Three pampered married women (Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler) find their over-the-top lifestyles threatened by their philandering ex-husbands. As they attempt to reinvent themselves, Keaton’s character also learns that her college-age daughter is a lesbian. As the baby dyke, Jennifer Dundas is seen as an attractive, together and opinionated person in her own right, even when mom and her female cronies visit her at a lesbian bar. The three straight older women’s open acceptance of both the daughter and the bar makes this one of the highlights of Hollywood’s positive depiction, even for its short amount of time, of a lesbian/gay subject.
