The Boys of Venice is one incredibly dated yet incredibly hot entry from director William Higgins. There's lots of bad - and tight - clothes, heinous disco music and terrific facial cum-glazings all over the place here. There's also lots of "straight dudes" (replete with girlfriends) getting it on with another dude for the first time.

One of the film's highlights features Eric Ryan and Derrick Stanton romping in a public bathroom which Derrick christens by taking a pee while perched on rollerskates the whole time. It's as hot as it sounds. (It's all very Can't Stop the Music-esque.)

Other scenes include Scott Taylor taking photos of himself while jacking off (narcissism at its finest), Clay Russell and Butch rutting about in their beach-front apartment, Johnny Stone and Jimmy Young in a whore-baggin' trick scenario in a truck by the ocean, and the yummy Emmanuelle Bravos and Kip Noll in a disco (with bitches in tow!) fantasizing about having sex with each other right on the dancefloor.

This fantastic trip back in the day is Higgins' first film, and if you dig late-70s era sleaze The Boys of Venice is sure to get you whipping out those poppers and satin shorts.

A dated but promising Higgins debut

Director William Higgins made his debut with this California slice of boys, sex & disco. Looking at it now, it feels like a time capsule of late 70's memorabilia: shaggy hair, tube socks & roller disco. The flick sets the formula for everything to come "in the William Higgins tradition." There are a few faces which would become bigger porn stars later on: Derrick Stanton, Eric Ryan, and the most prolific of all, the twink with his "mojo" working overtime, Kip Noll.

Speaking of which, the best scene has to be the "disco" one where Noll and that tall, dark Greek God Emanuelle Bravos bump into each other on the dance floor. Fortunately, the glittery lights, warbling disco music & girlfriends fade away as their eyes lock, and fantasy takes over. Incredibly hot, it's a star-making scene for Noll (and unfortunately, Bravos dropped out of sight after this one picture).

While a bit rough around the edges, TBOV is an early classic that was an indication that the best was yet to come.
