Review

Teetering between being an enjoyably cheesy C&A "boys in prison" spoof and actual drama, this poor man's Fortune and Men's Eyes works best for those seeking humor and skin (but alas, no sex). The setting is Sunnyvale Labor Farm for wayward boys -- a veritable hotbed of homosexuality, pumped-up pecs, sadistic guards, lecherous priests, and a coterie of pretty boys who seem to be at all times in various stages of undress.

The story focuses on one cell of boys: Tim, the innocent "virgin" with a murderous past; Beef, the hunky chieftain and self-proclaimed "Top Cock"; and Lana, the acid-tongued queen. Adapted from a John C. Wall play and filled with campy lines, the film won't be compared with Shakespeare, but then again, what was the last Shakespeare play with studs entangled in a steamy, naked brawl in the showers.

Part Satire, Pure Farce

I recently came across “The Boys of Cellblock Q” that was made in 1992 and it has not stood the test of time. It is every bit as bad as it was when it was first released.
It’s the story of a new boy who has been sent to a boys’ work farm where the guard is sadistic and the priest is overly familiar with his charges that all happen to be gay. And from that story line things just get worse. In fact, this is one of the worst films I have ever seen. The acting is wooden and it looks like it might have been filmed in someone’s garage. If there was a plot then I have no idea of what it was and the humor is dreadful,
The film’s one asset is the use of frontal nudity and it is a pity that the guys who are naked are not that appealing. The hero, Timmy, a “cute” convict learns the facts of life in the detention center and there is a shower scene that turns into a rumble. The cover on the jewel box says “Come see what happens when good boys go bad…bad boys go straight…and straight boys go all the way”. So what happens?....not much.

Digital Disaster

A friend had a copy of it and I borrowed it to see if it was something I wanted to add to my DVD library. Well, let's just say that I wasted a hour of my time. This movie is not worth the digital encoded it is made of. Don't waste your time or money on this one unless you like to see just how bad a movie can be.

My friends and I saw this hilarious, outrageous and sexy play about ten times in Austin, Texas, in 1991 and couldn't believe it had actually made it to video! Then we watched the damn thing. The cast was completely different (and completely awful), the jokes and wild sense of humor were missing, and it looked like it been produced and directed by a B-list porn crew. Forget about this and order BENT, BAD BOYS or THE CONCRETE JUNGLE!
