What a pleasant surprise this new volume from Fred Goudon was when it landed on my desk. His last photo book, Aqua, was quite a feat in itself and was not going to be easy to top in pure aesthetic quality, remarkably he has. Sunday Morning proves to be an intimate study of men at that most delicate time surrounding slumber and sex.

My favorites are the photos of men in natural light, still tangled in the sheets with sleepy eyes and disheveled hair. Not only do these images show how relaxing it can be to sleep in but these men implore you to join them with extremely arousing come-hither glints in their eyes. The models, while impossibly handsome, are in general very natural in appearance, not overly groomed and very comfortable in front of the camera. Aside from a few strategically placed towels and sheets there is an abundant amount of skin and as this book is from Europe all the models are “au natural” in every way. They exhibit flawless bodies, un-shaved and un-plucked, for those of us that prefer a man just as he is when he wakes up.

In a season with an unusual amount of amazing photography books, this is a standout. It gives us the feeling of having just been woken up by a slight stir from the man lying beside us in a warm bed and seeing the morning sun light the delicate fuzz covering his taut belly and firm thighs making it impossible to crawl out from under the blankets.
